Richborough Estates has secured a resolution to grant planning permission at planning committee for the delivery of a 50 family homes just north of the historic village of Great Bowden in Leicestershire.
Harborough District Council approved the plans for the scheme of family homes, located on a 22 acre site abutting the northern edge of the historic and highly sought-after village, subject to signing of a S106 agreement.
The new development will comprise a combination of 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5 bedroom family homes – a percentage of which will be affordable – set alongside an extensive country park and allotments and designed to be respectful of the historic nature of the village, most of which is situated in a Conservation Area.
Steve Louth, Richborough Estates, said: “Great Bowden is an attractive historic village and throughout this process we have been conscious of the need to respect the character of the area, with particular reference to the relationship with the Conservation Area and the adjacent listed building.
“We have cooperated with Harborough District Council and the local community to ensure that the scheme is an attractive addition to the village with minimal direct impact on the amenity of local residents. This has resulted in amendments to our initial proposals including reduction of densities and building heights, with each plot being carefully designed based on its location.”
The development is in line with the emerging local plan insofar that the village is earmarked to accommodate some additional housing and will assist in ensuring the Council has a five year supply of housing land.
Steve continued: “There has been nothing of this scale built in Great Bowden for many years and this development will be a big step forward in helping to ensure a continued supply of high quality residential properties. The inclusion of an extensive country park and allotments available to both existing and new residents further adds to the attractiveness of the scheme”
Situated close to the A6, Great Bowden is just half a mile from the town of Market Harborough, with London approximately one hour away by train.
