The decline in the homeownership rate of young adults in Great Britain is an issue that has risen to the top of the political agenda. In his 2017 Autumn Budget, the Chancellor of the Exchequer, Philip Hammond, said:
… there is one area where young people today will, rightly, feel concern about their future prospects – and that is in the housing market. House prices are increasingly out of reach for many. It takes too long to save for a deposit’.
